I have to say I agree with this head, we stood for most of our teachers and the few we didn't stand for we didn't respect as much.
As for comments about earning respect - we were taught respect everyone unless they proved otherwise.

we had this rule when i was in school and its good to see it back
this boy seems like a jumped up little upstart and has a lot to learn about respect, good on the head for sending him home id say,a lot of kids now are very disrespectful and its about time something was done about it
