BBC axes musical reality shows?

Source DS

The BBC will reportedly axe its series of musical reality shows after I'd Do Anything finishes.

With viewing figures down from the previous two series, which found stars for The Sound of Music and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, BBC bosses are allegedly looking to find another Saturday night show to stop Graham Norton leaving for ITV.

An insider told The Sun: "The BBC are panicking. They want a hit new idea. They've put the word out to producers in the know about big Saturday shows."

However, a BBC spokesman denied the rumours, saying: "Of course we're looking for new shows for Graham but there's no truth in the idea we're not doing another musical reality show."

In I'd Do Anything, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber auditions contestants for the roles of Nancy and Oliver Twist in the upcoming West End stage revival of Oliver!

The show has come under fire from actor and Old Vic theatre director Kevin Spacey for providing the musical with free advertising.

I think there is only so much of the same type of show and it gets boring after a while. However, i do like Graham Norton
Maid Marian

Personally I think they're panicking because IDA has been a disaster!  Girls got through the auditions that shouldn't have and vice versa and the public aren't voting for ALW's favourites so he's decided he can re-write the role of Nancy as being Irish and not an Eastend cockney!

I also think they made a mistake having the results show on a Sunday night (even though it's recorded on the Saturday).  People don't want to wait that long to find out who's leaving
