Britton takes This Morning break
| Quote: | Fern Britton is taking a break from presenting This Morning following her admission she had stomach surgery.
The 50-year-old, whose dramatic weight-loss had been widely attributed to diet and exercise, underwent gastric banding in 2006.
She has faced criticism in the press and from fans after admitting to the operation last week.
ITV said: "Fern is having some time off and we are hoping to see her back at work very soon."
Co-presenter Phillip Schofield is hosting Tuesday's programme on his own.
'Personal decision'
Britton told This Morning viewers last week that she did not feel the need to "tell everybody" when she initially underwent surgery, and only decided to go public after a Sunday newspaper said it planned to run the story.
She added that the decision to undergo the surgery was a personal one, and that only a handful of people knew about the operation.
Britton added that she had spoken very carefully about eating less and exercising more and what she said was "absolutely true".
She made light of the situation, joking: "If I have a face-lift or haemorrhoids or something, I will ring the Sunday papers straight away." |

I really do feel sorry for celebs to be honest, they should have the right to a private life as much as anybody else BUT we all know thats just not possible so i guess she should of been straight from the start

If she has said that it was all down to exercise and a healthy diet then she has openly lied to everyone.
Can you imagine the backlash if she'd been paid by a diet company and openly plugged their product and the truth then came out???...she'd be sued for everything she had...and she wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

i think she should have told people from the start, im sure fans would have still supported her if she had been truthful but now they all probably feel decieved because she lied about it

I agree, if she hadn't told people that her weight loss was all down to a good diet and exercise then I think she would have got a lot more support. To deceive people the way she has though is wrong

I think, although it would have been better if she'd told the truth from the start, in fact, its no-one's business but her own. Celebrities have to accept that this can happen if the truth is found out.
