CatchphraseI used to love watching this, i remember getting really annoyed when they were so obvious but people couldnt get them
| Quote: | Roy Walker has said that he would "love" ITV game show Catchphrase to be revived.
The veteran comedian admitted that he was not happy with the direction the programme took after he departed in 1999, but claimed that he would love the series to be brought back.
"I get a bit tired of it because it's probably never going to happen, [but] I would love it to happen again because it's been off for so long," he told DS. "It was unique as a gameshow because there was such great material."
Walker was replaced as the host of the quiz by Nick Weir in 2000. Mark Curry took the helm two years later, but the programme was axed in December 2002.
The former host blamed the "silliness and running in the audience" brought to the show's format for its demise.
"It was all introduced by a new host and new production company," he said. "I never wanted anything like that and it was the beginning of the end for the show. They wanted to spend money on the set, but our set was so far ahead of its time, it was untrue.
"Instead of spending money on the catchphrases, which were pure genius at the beginning, they wasted it on sets, which looked McDonalds."
