HairsprayI finally watched this film last weekend and I really enjoyed it BUT I can't understand why they had to have a man in drag playing the mother of the main character

I watched it in February last year when i had my op so me and the kids sat watching it together.
I did enjoy it but i think i was in to much pain to take much notice, Rachel loved it thou.
I have wondered that myself MM as to why it has to be a man in drag
