A seven-year-old girl has died after being found unconscious in a swimming pool in Essex.
The girl was found on Saturday afternoon at Blackwater Leisure Centre in Maldon.
Police and the air ambulance were called to the scene and the leisure centre was closed.
The girl, who was from the Isle of Dogs, London, was later pronounced dead at Colchester General Hospital in Essex. An investigation is under way.
The Health and Safety Executive has also been informed.
Graham Farrant, chief executive of Leisure Connection which runs the centre, said: "All our thoughts and sympathies are with the family and we will do anything we can to help the police investigate this tragic incident.
"We're working closely with the police investigations and the local council.
"The centre will remain closed while this vital investigation takes place."
Essex Police said the death was being treated as "unexplained".
Later Essex Police said it had been decided the death was not a matter for a police investigation and the incident would be looked at by the environmental health department of Maldon District Council.
