Mamma mia biggest dvd of all time in the UK

Quote:
Mamma Mia! has become the biggest-selling DVD of all time in the UK.

The Abba musical has overtaken Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black Pearl with sales of more than 5 million units. Pirates has shifted 4.7 million copies on the DVD format.

Superhero sequel The Dark Knight was the second most purchased disc of 2008, selling 1.5 million copies.

Casino Royale and Lord Of The Rings entries Fellowship Of The Ring and The Two Towers also figure in the top five all-time DVD bestseller list, taken from the format's launch in 1998.

Mamma Mia! set UK cinema records earlier this year, becoming the highest-grossing theatrical release of all time with more than £69 million in ticket sales

Leo

mrs Leo dragged me off to see it a few weeks ago - I did not think it was great but some bits were fun - I liked singing along with the songs though
Tigerfan

Well finally got round to seeing it (yes yes I know I said I would see it in march - but we haven't had time until now   )

Any way I don't think I have ever been so disappointed with a film absolutely rubbish - dreadful singing voices too !!
2waterford

I liked the movie but it didnt compare to the Musical.
frys_red_jacket

Most film experts and common movie-goers agree that this film is very lacking in what it requires to become a truly-good film, and that it is under-par of what a movie truly should be.

So in short, movie specialists think this movie is stupid.

As do I :P

A corny movie for fans of corny movies that don't know when they are having crap shoveled into the pleasure-sensors of the brain.

Just messing with you guys - I don't judge people for the movies they watch.

But, I must say, I am surprised that it got this far.

Messing with us guys or not do not insult me!

I'm sorry, i'm just voicing my opinion on the movie and the views on it by the general public and film experts.

Voice your opinion by all means but do not insult!
Eat-ham

Oh for crying out loud, I didn't try to insult you.
Crazychick

The movie can't be that bad, after all it was top at the box office for ages and i havent heard hardly any negative feedback from experts
julie

It's just a matter of taste I think - another film I hated with a passion was also popular (4 weddings and funeral). Would be awful if we all liked the same things we wouldn't have anything to talk about
Eat-ham

General movie-goers go to see movies that seem interesting to them, when in reality those movies could be horrible in most people's eyes.

And film experts agree that Mama Mia was lacking in many fields, and was comparable to a failure such as HSM in movie-quality [not money-quantity]

And easy way to explain it is that the general public likes...well...corny movies.  Such as mama mia - woman moves to europe, woman meets man, woman sings throughout movie, woman marries man.  A basic plotline for at least a dozen movies.

Some of the best movies are the little-known ones, such as Southern Comfort and Colin.

I agree...the world would be such a boring place if everyone liked the same thing

Debs...seems the 2 P's will get on very well indeed..

For me the slushier and Stupider the film the more I enjoy it...typical Chicky Flicky Piccy get my vote all the time...Paul can't stand em
Maid Marian

I think the best critic is the person watching the film

I honestly don't take any notice of what film critics like / dislike because, as Katy has pointed out, everyone is different

One of the worst films I've ever seen is the latest remake of War of the Worlds yet other people rave about it!  It's not my place to say they're right or wrong - we can given an opinion but we don't have to be rude or insulting or dismiss what the other person has to say.
Katy'sclan

MM...I didn't go much on the WOW remake either...I was really quite disapointed as I love the original Soundtrack and also quite like Tom Cruise   ...so though it would be really good..

Katy xx
