Sky One resurrects 'Gladiators'sorce digital spyWednesday, January 30 2008, 10:16 GMT By James Welsh, International Editor Sky One has ordered ten new episodes of Gladiators following the format's successful revitalisation in America. The original UK version, itself an adaptation from an earlier iteration of American Gladiators, was produced by LWT for ITV and ran in various guises from 1992 to 2000. The new run of hour-long episodes on Sky was commissioned by director of programming Richard Woolfe, who said: "I am delighted to announce that the unmissable '90s TV show Gladiators is returning to British screens and it will be bigger and better than ever before. We've witnessed the revival of Take That and The Spice Girls; Sky One viewers can look forward to a televisual treat - the return of the ultimate David and Goliath battle where everyday amateurs will compete against a new breed of Gladiator. Our charismatic and eclectic warriors will compete in contests of physical strength and endurance." The Sky One show will be produced by Shine, which is in the process of acquiring American Gladiators producer Reveille. Sky will air the new series starting in May, and is currently hunting for a new team of 12 gladiators to take on 30 contestants. |

its funny though how your tastes change...i USED to love watching it on a saturday night...sky do have the repeats on and sometimes i flick on it and think...WOO did i actually used to watch this!!! its all too much for me now!!! |

It was essential Saturday night viewing in the 90s and now it's back!
Gladiators returns to Sky One in May, when 32 contenders from all over the UK will battle it out for the grand prize fund of £100,000. More than 20,000 applicants applied to take part in the revived series but only one male and one female contestant will triumph to win their share of the prize. Original referee John Anderson returns for the show, which is filmed in the biggest studio set in the UK. Sky One's Director Of Programmes, Richard Woolfe said: "I think it's going to absolutely blow people's socks off.
