Viewers will not be able to vote for their favourite Oliver Twist in I'd Do Anything, the BBC has said.

Andrew Lloyd Webber will instead get to decide which of the young boys competing takes the lead role in a West End production of Oliver!

The BBC One reality series follows similar shows in which members of the public picked stars for The Sound of Music and Joseph.

However, host Graham Norton said a public vote would be unfair on competing Olivers. He said: "Those little boys are tough as old boots but, to see them on television, they just look very vulnerable. To have a little boy sobbing would be quite upsetting."

Viewers will still be able to vote for an actress to play Nancy in the series which begins on Saturday. The contenders for that role will be over 17.

A BBC spokeswoman confirmed: "As Oliver is played by a minor, his role will not be open to the public vote. This decision was taken by the BBC following expert advice in providing a duty of care to child contributors.

"We want all the boys to gain as much from this experience as possible, and enable them to learn as much about musical theatre as they can over the course of the series

It is getting a bit boring now - especially because they seem to be coming really quickly after one another

I am enjoying this but I don't think the standard is as high as Maria or Joseph and there's definitely no-one who stands out as being a clear winner (IMO anyway)

The one 'Nancy' I don't like is Francesca ('friend' of Denise Van Outen) - she is consistently off-key and ALW has mentioned that all 3 weeks so far - and this is someone who has already been in shows in the West End!

Jessie has a good voice but is very OTT when it comes to acting - I can understand now why she was turned down twice for drama school

Jodie, Ashley and Rachel are my favourites 045.gif

I still can't understand why Barry Humphries is a judge - all he does is lech over the girls 31.gif

DVO just gushes rubbish and doesn't have a clue  - just because she's been in a couple of musicals doesn't mean she has the ability to judge :-x (off my soap box now)

John Barrowman - doesn't get it right everytime but I can understand his frustration that he's been accused of being negative when he is in fact giving constructive criticism 045.gif

ALW is spot on 99% of the time and has 'reprimanded' DVO and JB a number of times when they've gone on about how wonderful some of them are, particularly when it's obvious they are singing out of tune 21.gif

I don't know if it's possible for any of them to do 8 shows a week tbh - as I've said, none of them stand out for me at this stage of the show

For me last night it was Rachel, Jodie, Niamh and Sarah who gave the best performances  045.gif

I agree with Kellie though, I'm not sure Niamh is right for the role of Nancy - she certainly has a musical career ahead of though  045.gif

I like Jessie's voice but she's got to stop pulling faces when she sings and she needs to concentrate a lot on her acting!

I was disappointed in Ashley this week and can understand ALW's comments

Can't wait for the results show tonight.  I think Keisha will be in the bottom two again possibly with Ashley, Samantha or Francesca (thats my wish list anyway  21.gif )

I was really surprised that Fran went last week although I wasn't that bothered as I didn't like her.  I think it was wrong of ALW to speak the way he did to Ashley and then save her though - completely the wrong decision

I was sorry to see Keisha go this week too - she was far superior to Niamh.  I do think that Samantha should have been in the bottom 2 with her though and not Keisha

I can't wait for next week - an acting masterclass with Barbara Windsor - woo hoo!! (said with a sarcastic tone)

Enjoying this series a lot.

Think this week it should be Ashley out.

Funny how the Lord stormed off at the end of last weeks show.

I think it this week they were all really good and it is getting really hard now to choose between them.

But, for me two of them stood out the most and they were Samantha and Rachel

I think Sarah should go this week and maybe Ashley should be in the bottom two with her as well

Rachel, Sarah and Jodie were my favourites this week  045.gif

I think Ashley will definitely be in the bottom two with possibly Niamh or Samantha.

ALW really makes me laugh, his expressions are hilarious when he's watching the girls perform  21.gif

I'd Do Anything's Nancy contestants have been robbed, The Mirror reports.

The five remaining girls, Samantha Barks, Jessie Buckley, Niamh Perry, Jodie Prenger and Rachel Tucker, had phones and purses stolen as they rehearsed for this weekend's show.

The BBC confirmed a police investigation is underway and an insider said "the girls were very upset".

On this week's show the Oliver! musical hopefuls take lessons in comic timing from Phill Jupitus and West End director Nick Reed.
